In many meals of Niger, they contain a starch of some sort (usually millet, sorghum, or rice) and either sauce or stew. To accompany this is usually a side of salad made out of seasonal vegetables or the recently introduced Moringa leaves for their high nutritional value. Depending on the time of year Nigeriens also consume more meat! This normally occurs after rainfall when the livestock have more vegetation to eat from their migration routes. Due to their agriculture depending heavily on rainfall, most meals eaten now are grains and cereals since they have a long shelf life. The images above show some of the many meals these cereals can make.
